What are Support Services / FCR?

With QuiPower Support Services activated, you make your home battery available as a backup when the grid needs it. As a thank you for doing so, a compensation is paid. The amount of compensation varies depending on the size of your battery and inverter, and how often your battery is needed for stabilization. An average historical compensation for frequency regulation with QuiPower is 312.5 SEK/kW/month(260 SEK/kW/month excluding VAT).

Why are support services needed?

The share of renewable energy in the electricity system is increasing, and as it does, new challenges arise related to the balance of the electricity grid. For the electricity system to function, it is necessary to balance the production and consumption of electricity. Since it is not possible to store electricity on a large scale, electricity needs to be produced at the same time as it is consumed, which can be difficult with renewable sources as it is not always windy, for example. Svenska Kraftnät is responsible for balancing the entire Swedish power system and the balance is regulated both automatically and manually. As more and more private individuals lease their home batteries for use to Svenska Kraftnät, the possibilities for stabilizing the electricity grid increase and it becomes less vulnerable.

The ancillary services that you will provide when you activate QuiPower Ancillary Services are the Frequency Containment Reserve (FCR) and currently more specifically FCR-D.

Frequently asked questions

In order to subscribe to QuiPower Support Services, you will need to complete a checklist to confirm that your system is compatible. Here are the most common questions we get related to it:

Answer: We have chosen to use Bixia as the balance responsible for Support Services for QuiPower as it is the supplier that offers the best compensation for FCR. This means that you as a customer get more back in your wallet. Simply the most profitable decision.

Answer: In order to be able to subscribe to QuiPower Support Services , it is required that your electricity supplier has Bixia AB as balance manager. This does not mean that you need to have Bixia as your electricity supplier. The following electricity retailers currently have Bixia AB as balance responsible (if you are unsure, you can always contact your own electricity retailer).

  • Affärsverken Energi i Karskrona AB
  • Bixia AB
  • Bjäre Kraft Energi AB
  • Eklart AB
  • Jönköping Energi AB
  • Kalmar Energi Försäljning AB
  • Sturefors Godsförvaltning AB
  • 1K5 EL AB

Answer: Switching electricity suppliers is easy and usually takes a few weeks. Many electricity suppliers offer to help you transfer your contract if you switch to them. We therefore recommend that you contact an electricity supplier that has Bixia as a balance responsible party to sign an electricity trading contract with them and terminate your current one.

Answer: You can read more about what a balance manager is and how it works on Svenska Kraftnät’s website.

Remember that if you buy solar cells, home batteries, electric car chargers and related services, you are always responsible for complying with the Swedish Tax Agency’s guidelines when using green technology deductions.
